The Island which is called Prison Island is one of the uninhabitant Island from Zanzibar that now is special for the tourists.The Island was underArabs owners who were the one who sold to the English and before it was totally empty and then later the English built the prison which was built in 1893 but they could never used as a prison because of delaying of the bulding.Later it was used a as relaxation place for the lloyd Mathew the one who bought it from the Arabs owners and he built his house for the relaxations.The Island has got four names but the name Prison Island is the best known name to the people but behind we get other names like Changuu Island,Quarantine Island and Tortoises Island.So the Island was used for the different uses such as Quarantine Island that was in 1923 and that's why we get Quarantine Island. It was Quarantine for the people who had diseases such as Malaria,Yellow fever and Chlolera.Now on the Islans you can see the prison,the tortoises,the peacoks and sometime when you are lucky you can see dik dik ( small antelope ).The totoises were brought in 1919 as gift for the sultan and his wife. They were brought from Seychelles to Zanzibar Island and they were four but now their numbers have been increased.Those are attraction that you can see on the Island so now the Island is under Zanzibar Government and it is particular for the tourists.
